Anand Mahindra attributes India's innovation surge to IIT Madras and ambitious incubators

Highlighting the pivotal role of IIT Madras as one of the world's foremost incubators, Mahindra underscored India's emergence as a hub for genuine innovators.

IIT Madras has garnered acclaim as one of the most exciting and active incubators in the world. Industrialist Anand Mahindra lauded the institution for its pivotal role in fostering a culture of innovation.

Anand Mahindra said IIT Madras and a number of other ambitious incubators throughout India, have reshaped perceptions about the country's innovation capabilities on the global stage.

"IIT Madras has become one of the WORLD’s most exciting and active incubators. Thanks to them and the rapidly growing number of ambitious incubators throughout India, we’re no longer seen as a country that lacks genuine innovators," remarked Mahindra, underscoring the transformative impact of India's growing startup ecosystem.

In his post, which has the image of India's first electric flying taxi, Mahindra said that the ePlane Company, currently incubated at IIT Madras, is taking a significant leap forward in the country's transportation innovation. He also emphasized the importance of bold aspirations.


The ePlane Company, a Chennai-based deep tech start-up with ambitions to develop flying electric taxis, achieved an important milestone on May 23 last year when it became the first Indian electric aircraft company to secure a crucial approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The ePlane e200 is a two-seater aircraft specifically designed for urban spaces. It boasts a travel range of 200 km and can make multiple stops on a single charge, resulting in significant time savings for consumers, as stated in a release by the start-up.

An eVTOL aircraft utilises electric power for vertical take-off, hovering, and landing. In May, the company founded in 2019 by Professor atyanaryanan Chakravarthy, conducted a successful test of its prototype aircraft, the ePlane e50.
