A woman from Agra, Uttar Pradesh has reportedly asked for a divorce from her husband after he failed to bring her a packet of popular Indian snack Kurkure. The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, used to ask her husband to get her a Kurkure packet costing Rs 5 everyday because she was apparently "addicted" to it.
Things went haywire when one day her husband forgot to bring home a packet. Angry at being denied her favourite junk food, the woman left her home and went to her parents’ home. She later approached the police but said that she left her husband's house after he physically abused her.
According to the report in Hindustan Times, the Shahganj Police in Agra sent the couple for family counselling.
The couple got married last year and everything was well between them initially. However, as some time passed, the husband got worried about his wife's unusual addiction to the snack.
Police is investigating the matter to ascertain the truth behind the allegations.
Kurkure, a product owned by Lays, which in turn is owned by Pepsico, was first launched in India in 1999. It is a crunchy puffcorn snack made of rice, lentils and spices.
Meanwhile, in January, a woman from Bhopal sought divorce from her husband, claiming he promised her a honeymoon in Goa but took her to Ayodhya and Varanasi instead. According to a report in the Free Press Journal, the case reached the family court 10 days after the couple returned from the pilgrimage trip.
