Microsoft has fixed an issue that caused its Edge browser to crash when users tried to type into the address bar. The web browser experienced issues for several hours before Microsoft could fix it.
Users on Friday reported that they were unable to use Microsoft Edge. The issue seemed to have appeared for users who had set Google as their default search engine. Both Windows and Mac users were affected by the glitch had they set Google as the default search engine.
Microsoft has now fixed the issue and users can type into the address bar without having to change any settings. Thanks for everyone's patience while we investigated! We believe this to be resolved now. We encourage you to revert your browser settings that you may have changed, and let us know if you are still experiencing any crashes typing into the address bar. https://t.co/Icx2qR3UHM

If you are still experiencing issues, Microsoft recommends to turn off search suggestions in the browser’s settings.
Are you seeing Edge crash when trying to type into the address bar? The team is looking into it! In the meantime, as a workaround, please turn off Search Suggestions here: edge://settings/search. We'll follow up once we have more!
