Meesho’s chief product officer, Kirti Varun Avasarala, is set to depart after spending four years at the e-commerce startup.
Avasarala’s exit marks the second top-level departure at the Bengaluru-based company. In October, Moneycontrol had reported that Utkrishta Kumar, the chief experience officer or CXO at Meesho was moving on after spending five years at Meesho.
In his career spanning more than 15 years, Avasarala has previously worked several companies, including Flipkart and Amazon, both of which Meesho competes with.
While Kumar had quit to start his own fintech venture, Avasarala’s next move was not immediately known. The company confirmed that its CPO was departing.
"We thank Kirti for a highly impactful 4-year tenure as the Chief Product Officer at Meesho. He’s been instrumental in establishing and shaping our Product organisation. Kirti will continue to support us during this period of transition over the next few months. We wish him the very best for his future endeavours,” a Meesho spokesperson said.
YourStory, an online news portal, was first to report about Meesho’s CPO departing.
The exit comes just months after Meesho had rejigged its top deck. Megha Agarwal, formerly the CXO of growth was made the new CXO, business. Agarwal’s earlier role was then split into three categories — user growth, product quality and net merchandise value (NMV) retention — and was allocated to executives internally.
Nilesh Gupta, senior director, growth, took on additional duties as general manager, user growth. Similarly, Sourabh Pandey, CXO, fulfilment and experience, was then made the lead for NMV retention. The product quality division, however, continues to remain with Agarwal.
All three — Gupta, Pandey and Agarwal — will continue to report to Aatrey. These changes at a time when Meesho is putting itself on a profitable path.
The SoftBank–backed low price e-commerce platform said its revenue from operations grew 77 percent from Rs 3,232 crore in FY22 to Rs 5,735 crore in FY23, as existing customers transacted more on the platform and monetisation efforts yielded desired results during the year.
While revenues grew, its losses halved from Rs 3,251 crore in FY22 to Rs 1,675 crore in FY23. To be sure, Meesho is yet to file its final results with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
