Leica Leitz Phone 2 launched with one-inch camera sensor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and 240Hz OLED display

Renowned German camera brand Leica has announced its second smartphone in Japan. The Leica Leitz Phone 2 follows last year’s Leitz Phone 1 and has been co-developed in collaboration with Sharp. In fact, the Leitz Phone 1 was a rebranded version of the Sharp Aquos R7 with a few design and build tweaks.

Leica Leitz Phone 2 Price 

Leica Leitz Phone 2 is priced at JPY 225,360 (roughly Rs 1,28,000) for the sole 12GB/512GB model. The Leitz Phone 2 comes in a single Leica White colour and is set to go on sale from November 18. However, there is no information about Leica’s latest smartphone outside Japan.

Leica Leitz Phone 2 specifications 

The Leica Leitz Phone 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The phone also comes with 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage that is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card. The Phone 2 packs a 5,000 mAh battery that charges through a USB Type-C port. The handset runs Android 12 out of the box.

The Leica Leitz Phone 2 sports a 6.6-inch UXGA+ (2730 x 1260 pixels) Pro IGZO OLED display. The screen can display one billion colours, has a 20 million: 1 contrast ratio, and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, the same as the iPhone 14 Pro. The panel also boasts a 240Hz refresh rate and supports Dolby Vision.

For optics, the Leica Leitz Phone 2 gets a single 47.2 MP rear camera that uses a large one-inch sensor with a super wide f/1.9 aperture and a seven-element Summicron lens. The main camera features a 19mm focal length. The main camera is accompanied by a 1.9 MP depth sensor. On the front, you get a 12.6 MP camera for selfies.

The phone also comes with a silicone case with a matte texture and an aluminium cap that protects the lens. The Leica Leitz Phone 2 also features an aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass to protect the display. The phone is water and dust resistant with its IP68 and IP5X specifications.
