Founder and CEO Sulajja Firodia Motwani of Kinetic Green, a manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, stated that the business is planning to invest Rs 100 crore to manufacture the e-Luna, which is scheduled for an official introduction next month.
Reservations for e-Luna will open on January 26 and the vehicle will go on sale the following month, clearing the way for the resurgence of the Luna brand — this time in an electric form — more than 50 years after its first introduction, said the company in a press release.
According to Motwani, the e-Luna will cater to passenger and last-mile delivery demands and has the potential to be a multipurpose vehicle.
The e-Luna will come to the market five decades after the launch of the Luna moped.
The future of electric vehicles (EVs), especially e-two-wheelers, in India, is "very bright", said Motwani.
"Over the course of the next 24 months, we plan to invest a total of Rs 100 crore in the brand," she told PTI. She stated that the e-Luna is not only for India but for all of Bharat and that smaller places and even Tier II and III cities are switching to EVs.
Additionally, e-Luna is exceptionally well-designed to serve a wide range of demographics, she added.
According to Motwani, the timing of the introduction is "absolutely right" in terms of the brand, the product, the economy, and the price.
She said the company has seen "good traction" on both passenger and last-mile segments of the e-moped. "We have deployed about 1,500 vehicles for last-mile delivery in a pilot stage and we think we will get very good response from this segment as well. We are also going to sign an MoU for a very large quantity very soon," she stated.
For the passenger B2C network, the business anticipates a need for 50,000-70,000 e-Luna vehicles and for the last-mile delivery sector another 20,000-30,000 units.
According to Motwani, Kinetic Green already has 300 two-wheeler stores nationwide with plans to increase that number to 1,500 over the next three years.
She said Kinetic Green has also put in place a new production line that could build five lakh e-Luna vehicles a year.
