Sale of wheat, rice to states under OMSS stopped to maintain adequate buffer stocks, control prices

State governments of Karnataka, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have requested wheat and rice under OMSS (D) Policy, which was not acceded to due to the discontinuation of the sale of wheat and rice to states under OMSS(D) 2023.
Discontinuing sale of OMSS grains to states more aimed at curbing price rise, not any particular state: Centre

On June 13, the Union Food Ministry discontinued the sale of rice and wheat under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) to all state governments, barring northeast, hilly states and those facing law and order situations and natural calamities.
FCI sells 24.61 lakh tonnes wheat in April-September under OMSS

In the entire last fiscal 2015-16, FCI had offloaded about 70 lakh tonnes of wheat under the scheme.
