Mumbai Coastal Road: According to chief minister Eknath Shinde, the alignment of the road, which is also officially known as 'Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road', was changed to allow a gap of 120 metres between the road pillars in Worli. This was done to ensure smooth passage of boats used by the fishermen.
The project's cost went up not due to the delay in its completion, but due to the change in alignment to address the concerns of the fishermen community of Worli, Shinde said.
In an order to ease movement of vehicles as well as to improve north-south connectivity, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is constructing a project that will be 10.58 kms long, originating near the Princess Street flyover, close to Marine Drive, that will bend at the Bandra Worli Sea Link.
The existing southbound traffic on Marine Drive, one of the busiest parts of the city, will be routed through the service road "running parallel along the gymkhanas", an advisory issued by the traffic police said.
The proposed Coastal Road will have a 4+4 lane configuration comprising roads based on reclamation, besides bridges, elevated roads and tunnels, the Mumbai civic body said.
The 29.2 km-long seaside road project has been undertaken by the Shiv Sena-led Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to connect Marine Drive in south Mumbai to Borivali in north Mumbai.
The Cuffe Parade-Nariman Point elevated road is expected to receive a major chunk of the allocations aside from the Rs 745-crore earmarked for the two road over-bridges at Mahalaxmi.
The poor application of techno-governance in the environmental domain can be traced to narratives that posit ‘environment protection’ in opposition to ‘development’, and relegate the former to a lower priority in statecraft.
The BMC will take up the repair works as a part of the coastal road project
"HCC's share in the joint venture (JV) is 55 percent (Rs 1,169 crore) and the project is to be completed in four years (48 months)," the company said in a BSE filing.
