E Challan

E-challan is an electronic format of challan and has replaced the physical pieces of paper. Right from a person breaking traffic rules to paying the fine, several stages have been digitized with the help of e-challan. The electronic challan system in place traces the traffic violation ticket issued by the local traffic police when traffic rules are violated. It is an initiative provided by the Government of India with an aim to improve its services and ensure transparency. It has also helped in reducing bribes. Nowadays, the Motor Vehicles Department of many states have enabled the MTP CCTV Challan system wherein CCTV cameras are installed. These CCTV cameras are deployed on roads that continuously record the footage and capture the offence of the traffic violator. The details like the name, address etc of the vehicle of the traffic violator is obtained and SMS is sent to the violator informing about the offence and the fee of the same. The core benefits of e-challans are minimising time and efforts of citizens in making payments or follow-up actions which they face after getting challan on Road to minimize revenue loss and enhance transparency. It also provides a real time Road Safety implementation report to the Ministry/ State Govts for data driven policy making. It also ensures easy and efficient challaning option for Transport Enforcement Officers and Traffic Police officers which is completely customizable as per state/ department requirements. There is no issue of duplicate or fake challans. Online payment of challans by citizen can be done “anytime and anywhere”. More
