The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), in a statement issued on Sunday, said the new flight service by Vietnamese airline Vietjet was a significant milestone for it.

Despite the closure of the airport for 15 days due to the floods in August, the CIAL registered an increase of turnover of 17.52 per cent.
The decision to suspend the operations was taken after shutters of the Idamalayar and Cheruthoni dams, part of Idukki reservoir, were opened last evening to release excess water.
The consolidated turnover of achieved by CIAL and its fully owned subsidiaries like CIAL Duty Free and Retail Services Limited (CDRSL) stands at Rs 701.13 crore.
"The project comprised of putting together 8,472 solar panels on 27 carports spread over 20,289.9 square meter of area. The entire solar plant is aimed towards reducing 1,868 tonnes of CO2 annually," the company said in a statement.
It's common knowledge that Kerala has a wide expanse of water bodies. A lesser known fact is that the Kerala state irrigation department is close to formulating a plan to use the reservoirs of dams like the one behind me as bases to generate solar power.
"Bosch Limited, a leading supplier of technology and services, has commissioned a 12 MW solar project for Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL)," the company said in a press release.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate CIAL's green initiative--a 12MWp solar power project set up on the premises of the airport on August 18, Airport Managing Director V J Kurien told reporters here.
"The CIAL board meeting, chaired by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has declared that the company's profit before tax stood at Rs 179.30 crore (in FY 2014-15). It was Rs 157.46 crore in the last year (fiscal)," a CIAL statement said here.
