CSK Retention List 2026: It is confirmed that MS Dhoni will be playing one more season for the Chennai Super Kings as his name was mentioned in the retained players list ahead of the IPL 2026 season on Saturday (November 15). The day also featured the team releasing Matheesha Pathirana from their squad. The day was also memorable for the Super Kings trading for Sanju Samson, a player of Rajasthan Royals.

CSK made a historic trade in this IPL season, spending Rs 18 crore to get Sanju Samson, the highest amount ever paid in a trade by a team. After this, there is still a question about the captaincy of the team if Ruturaj Gaikwad will come back to lead the side following the last season, in which Dhoni was the skipper.

The day began with CSK parting ways with Ravindra Jadeja, their long-time all-rounder, indicating the start of a new era for the franchise. They also disclosed that Sam Curran has been traded to the Rajasthan Royals as well. In the wake of this transition, they released two different players from New Zealand, namely Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, who were the high-value signings in their recent seasons.

Before the last mega auction cycle, CSK decided to keep five of their players. The team used Rs 18 crores each to retain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja, and Rs 13 crore to retain Matheesha Pathirana, whose release now takes that amount to the auction purse. The Chennai franchise was successful in retaining Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni.

Players released: Ravindra Jadeja (traded to Rajasthan Royals), Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Matheesha Pathirana, Sam Curran (traded to Rajasthan Royals), Andre Siddarth, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Shaikh Rasheed and Vijay Shankar.
