Who is Tarvinder Singh Marwah?

After being the Jangpura MLA from 1998 to 2013 from the Congress camp, Marwah jumped the shit and joined the BJP in 2022.

Hailing from the Sikh community, which comprises a sizeable section of the electorate along with Punjabis in the constituency, Marwah has pushed hard to regain lost ground.

The BJP candidate faced a fierce competition from AAP stalwart Sisodia and Congress’ Farhad Suri in a triangular contest in the Jangpura seat, which comprises a mix of upper middle-class and lower-class segments with Jatavs, Balmikis, Saini and Dhobi (washermen) communities besides Muslims, according to a News18 report.

This was the first time Sisodia contested the Jangpura seat. He had earlier represented the Patparganj seat between 2013-2024. In the 2020 assembly polls, he won the seat by narrow margins.

In Jangpura, Sisodia faced the charge of "outsider” from Marwah, who has won thrice from the constituency in the past. In his campaign, the BJP leader focused to make a narrative of ‘local versus outsider’ whereas Sisodia harped on AAP’s promises and freebies.
