Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his delight as India officially won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. He said with the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India was eager to celebrate these historic games with great enthusiasm.
"Delighted that India has won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030. Congratulations to the people of India and the sporting ecosystem. It is our collective commitment and spirit of sportsmanship that has placed India firmly on the global sporting map," Modi said in a post on X.
Gujarat's capital, Ahmedabad, has been confirmed as the host city, marking a major milestone for India in global sports, 20 years after Delhi last hosted the Games in 2010. Delegates from 74 Commonwealth member nations and territories approved India’s bid during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.
India’s winning vision positioned Ahmedabad as a modern and culturally rich city capable of staging a memorable Centenary edition. The proposal highlighted India’s young population, sporting ambition, and strong sporting culture, promising a Games that will resonate locally while captivating audiences worldwide.
