In the Delhi Assembly elections results held on Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious, securing a majority in the 70-member assembly. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, faced a significant setback, with early trends indicating a substantial lead for the BJP.
Manish Sisodia, a senior AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, concedes his defeat against BJP candidate Tarvinder Singh. Sisodia, who had won three times consecutive times from Patparganj seat, lost by 600 votes.
"Party workers fought well; we all did hard work. People have supported us as well. But, I lose by 600 votes. I congratulate the candidate who won. I hope he will work for the constituency," said Sisodia.
The Jangpura seat has been a strong hold for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the past three Assembly polls.
Prior to the elections, Sisodia had been incarcerated for 17 months in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. He was released on bail in August 2024, shortly before the elections
Conceding his loss, Mr Sisodia said BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah, who is set to win Jangpura this time, will address people's concerns. Asked what was behind his defeat, he replied that he would analyse the results and come to a conclusion.
