Sunjay Kapur a 'digital ghost in his own will': Karisma Kapoor's kids make explosive allegations against stepmom Priya

The senior counsel also highlighted another damning contradiction: the document identifies Sunjay Kapur as a ‘testatrix’, a legal term used exclusively for women leaving behind a will.

Sunjay Kapur was married to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor from 2003-16.

The inheritance battle over Rs 30,000 crore estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has taken a thrilling turn with ex-wife Karisma Kapoor’s children reiterating that their father’s will was forged and the conspiracy was hatched in a WhatsApp group.

Appearing for Kiaan and Samaira Kapur, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani told the Delhi High Court that Sunjay Kapur’s purported will was “a deliberate fabrication engineered by Priya Kapur to seize control of every major asset”—including shares, trusts, and real estate—while sidelining both children and his mother Rani Kapur. “Only one person profits from this forged will,” Jethamalani told Justice Jyoti Singh during the hearing on Tuesday.

The will exists only in digital form, riddled with electronic edits and missing metadata, the senior counsel said. “There is no chain of custody, no signature, no handwriting, no registration — and no trace of Sunjay Kapur’s involvement,” Jethmalani said. “He’s a digital ghost in his own will.”

Doubling down on the forgery allegations, Jethamalani also said that the language of the will showed glaring blunder that don’t match with the Harvard-educated industrialist’s precision that he was known for.

The most glaring inconsistency, Jethmalani argued, lay in the will’s repeated use of feminine pronouns. “When you find ‘she’ and ‘her’ four times in a will supposedly written by Sunjay Kapur — a man known for precision and pride in his image — it’s impossible to believe he drafted it,” he said.

The senior counsel also highlighted another damning contradiction: the document identifies Sunjay Kapur as a ‘testatrix’, a legal term used exclusively for women leaving behind a will. “A document like this would have ruined his reputation,” Jethmalani told the court, adding that the will’s very language undermines its credibility.

Talking to Moneycontrol, Rahul R Shelke, Civil Lawyer, Bombay High Court, said: “The repeated use of feminine pronouns and the term ‘testatrix’ in a will attributed to a male testator certainly raises questions about its drafting and authenticity. In high-value succession cases, even minor linguistic inconsistencies can acquire significant legal weight. The Court will likely examine whether these anomalies stem from a genuine drafting error or indicate posthumous alteration. Either way, clarity on authorship and intent will be critical in determining the rightful course of inheritance and ensuring that the document reflects the testator’s true wishes."

Jethmalani argued that Priya now controls 60% of the estate directly, 12% through her son, and 75% of the Kapur family trust, effectively tightening her grip over the late industrialist’s empire. “This isn’t inheritance,” he said. “It’s a takeover — under the guise of widowhood.”

The Delhi High Court will resume the hearing in the case from 2:30 pm onwards.

Karisma Kapoor's children had moved the Delhi High Court last month against their stepmom seeking their share in their late father Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 crore estate.

On September 26, the High Court had allowed Priya Sachdev Kapur to file the list of Sunjay's assets in a sealed cover.

On October 9, Samaira and Kiaana had describing their stepmom as "Cinderella’s evil stepmother" before the court.

Sona Comstar boss Sunjay Kapur had died in London in June. His death was ruled as heart attack. Sunjay Kapur was married to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor from 2003-16. He later married Priya in 2017.
