Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Brunei's renowned Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, a historic landmark built by the father of the current Sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah on September 3.
Modi, who is on the first leg of his two-nation trip, was warmly welcomed at the mosque by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Ustaz Awang Badaruddin and Minister of Health Mohammad Isham. During his visit, Modi watched a video detailing the mosque's history.

The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, completed in 1958, is named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei and the father of the current Sultan, who initiated its construction. The mosque stands as a symbol of Brunei's rich heritage.

The Indian community in Brunei, numbering approximately 14,000, also gathered to greet the Prime Minister. Modi's visit marks a significant moment as he is the first Indian Prime Minister to undertake a bilateral visit to Brunei. Previous Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had visited Brunei in October 2013 for the 11th ASEAN-India Summit.
Brunei plays a key role in India's ‘Act East’ Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision. The two nations share a longstanding relationship rooted in history, culture, and tradition, underscoring their mutual respect and understanding on various bilateral and multilateral issues.
