The five-day “Amrit Kaal” session of Parliament begins on September 18, a day after an all-party meeting was held in the national capital.  The session will begin amid the buzz that the Centre might table a “surprise bill”.

The central government had announced the convening of the special session last month but had not released any agenda. A war of words had erupted between the ruling dispensation and Congress over the business of the House. The government later released the agenda. Right Bills have been listed for consideration and passage.

10 things on the “Amrit Kaal” session:

1) The discussion on 75 years of Parliament will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha and BJP's senior leader Piyush Goyal in the Rajya Sabha on September 18.

2) Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs will assemble at the Central Hall for a function to "commemorate the rich legacy of the Parliament of India and resolve to make Bharat a developed Nation by 2047" on September 19 at 9.30am. It will be followed by a photo session.

3) Ahead of the session, 10 women parliamentarians shared their memories, messages, and experiences of the old Parliament building in handwritten notes, reported PTI.

4) After the function at the Central Hall on September 19, the sitting will be shifted to the new building. A small puja will likely take place as it will also be Ganesh Chaturthi.

5) The central bulletin termed the agenda 'tentative,' indicating that other issues may also be brought up for discussion during the session.

6) Some of the bills to be tabled may include: The Repealing and Amending Bill, 2022, The Post Office Bill, 2023, The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023, The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, Senior Citizens Welfare Bill, 2023 and The Constitution (SC/ST) Order, 2023.

7) On September 17, Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar raised the national flag on the new building. Lok Saha Speaker Om Birla was also present on the occasion.

8) At an all-party held on September 17, several regional parties, including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's Bharat Rashtra Samithi, pushed for the tabling of the women's reservation bill.

9)  Two issues that are rumoured to be taken up in the special session of Parliament are the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill, and a resolution to rename India as Bharat.

10) A special session was also held when India completed 50 years of Independence. On 15 August 1997, a midnight session was convened.
