Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday sparked speculation with a cryptic post on social media platform X, expressing cautious optimism about developments for the Union Territory during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
“I’ve heard every possible permutation & combination about what to expect in J&K tomorrow so let me stick my neck out and say nothing will happen tomorrow - fortunately nothing bad will happen but unfortunately nothing positive will happen either. I’m still optimistic about something positive for J&K in this monsoon session of Parliament but not tomorrow,” he wrote on X.

Abdullah clarified that he has not been in touch with any political leaders in New Delhi and described his remarks as a “gut feeling” about what might unfold during the Parliament session on August 5.
Although the post did not specify what he was referring to, it comes amid growing speculation about the possible restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. While no official statement has been made, several media outlets have reported that the Centre is actively considering the move.
Earlier on Monday, National Conference (NC) president and Omar Abdullah’s father, Farooq Abdullah, questioned the Centre over the timeline for restoring statehood. He called on the Centre to honor its commitment and urged it to conduct elections for the Union Territory’s vacant Rajya Sabha seats, emphasising that the people of Jammu and Kashmir must not be denied their democratic rights.
The developments come at a time when political activity and anticipation are high in the region, with many viewing the monsoon session as a potential turning point in Jammu and Kashmir’s political future.
