In a move aimed at empowering Karnataka's youth through international employment opportunities, the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) said it has successfully sent 94 candidates to Slovakia under its ambitious overseas job scheme.

Headed by Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister of Skill Development, Livelihood & Medical Education, this initiative marks a pivotal initiative for job aspirants in the state.

The candidates comprising graduates of BE, diploma holders, and those trained in ITI and other vocational courses, underwent rigorous preparation facilitated by KSDC. This included specialised training at the Toyota Kirloskar unit in Bidadi, funded entirely by the department, to support economically disadvantaged candidates who would otherwise needed to pay a fee of Rs 35,000.

KSDC said Dr Sharan Prakash Patil personally oversaw the deployment process, ensuring each candidate received necessary documentation, visas, and logistical support. After learning that Slovakia has shown interest in recruiting over two and half thousand assembly line operators from the state, Dr Patil made the officials of his department ink an agreement with the External Affairs Ministry.

"The first batch departed on June 5, followed by subsequent groups on June 20, June 24, and July 1," said Dr Patil during a ceremonial send-off where flight tickets were distributed to the departing candidates. Each recruit is set to earn a competitive salary of 970 euros (approximately Rs 86,000) per month, reflecting the quality and value of their skills in the international job market.

Apart from Slovakia, the KSDC has facilitated employment for 37 drivers in Hungary and is finalising arrangements for welders to secure positions in Mauritius. The corporation, under the leadership of Managing Director M Kanagavalli, is actively pursuing additional opportunities in countries such as Australia, Japan, Germany, Finland, Norway, and the Gulf nations, catering to diverse job profiles including technicians and blue-collar workers.
