'Hurled bombs, fired 6-7 rounds of bullets': BJP leader claims TMC workers attacked his car during Bengal bandh

BJP leader Priyangu Pandey on Wednesday claimed that his car was attacked by individuals associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the Bhatpara area of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

He alleged that several people hurled bombs on his vehicle and then 6-7 rounds of firing were done.

"This morning, I left my house to reach Arjun Singh's residence at around 8.15 am. Just three minutes after leaving the house, the road was blocked by a jetting machine. Around 50-60 people targeted my vehicle and hurled bombs. After that, 6-7 rounds of bullets were fired," he said.

This is a joint conspiracy of Trinamool and the police, claimed Pandey. "They planned my murder. The police supported and gave information. My security was withdrawn and then this incident happened," he said.

The attack comes as BJP workers called a 12-hour "Bangla bandh" today, protesting against the police crackdown on those who took part in the march to the state secretariat 'Nabbana' over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata.

The march to Nabanna in Howrah was organised by the newly-formed students' group Chatra Samaj, demanding the resignation of chief minister Mamata Banerjee over the rape and murder of the doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

While Priyangu Pandey was safe, his driver Ravi Verma and another party worker Ravi Singh have received bullet injuries, the BJP has claimed.

Another party leader Arjun Singh claimed that the attack was done in a planned manner. "This attack was done in a planned manner with a nexus of criminals and Barrackpore police. I suggest TMC leaders to fight politically, not to get involved in these kinds of cowardly attacks," he said.

Singh further demanded immediate stern actions against the attackers, conspirators and their patrons.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal police also detained protesting BJP party workers at Kolkata's Bata Chowk.
