Days after the Supreme Court asked Election Commission to consider Aadhaar as one of the 11 documents from people for the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the poll body on Sunday said that documents of 98.2 per cent voters have already been received with eight more days left for people to file claims and objections to the draft electoral roll of Bihar published as part of the exercise of voters' list.
The EC underlined that the claims and objections period allows the electors to not only rectify mistakes in the draft rolls, but also submit their requisite documents which they may not have provided while submitting their enumeration forms.
From June 24 to August 24, in 60 days, 98.2 per cent persons have submitted their documents. "This means an average of about 1.64 per cent per day. There are still eight days to go till September 1 with just 1.8 per cent electors remaining for submission of the documents," the EC noted.
The exercise to collect their documents with the help of BLOs and volunteers is going on. Thus, just like the collection of Enumeration forms, work related to the collection of documents is also likely to be completed before time, the poll body stated.
The poll body, earlier this month came out with the names of 65 lakh people who were removed from the draft electoral rolls published as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise. The development came in the backdrop of the Supreme Court's direction that details of the deleted names be made public by August 19 and a compliance report be filed by August 22.
In line with the orders of SIR dated June 24, verification of documents is also being done concurrently by the concerned 243 EROs and 2,976 AEROs. In the initial tally, the Poll body said, 20 lakh electors have been found deceased, over 28 lakh permanently migrated and 7 lakh electors found enrolled at more than one place.
