Former Tamil Nadu Congress chief KS Alagiri found himself in soup over his comments on BJP leader and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut by stating that she “must be slapped" if she visits the southern state.
Criticising the BJP MP from Mandi, the Congress leader said, “Kangana Ranaut has made such loose talk many times. Once, when she was at the Delhi airport and a woman CISF personnel slapped her, she later said it was because she had made derogatory remarks. When she comes this side (south), you should slap her without forgetting about it."
The senior Congress leader defended his remarks by saying, “Kangana speaks with arrogance", according to a report by News18.
His comments came in response to a question about an old statement made by Ranaut, in which she alleged that women activists could be hired to participate in protests for Rs 100. Ranaut had made remarks about the activists during the 2020 farmers’ protest, on X.
Last year, Kangana Ranaut was reportedly slapped and abused by a woman CISF constable during a security check at the Chandigarh airport. The accused constable, identified as Constable Kulwinder Kaur, was suspended and an FIR was lodged against her.
She was reportedly upset with Ranaut over her stance on the farmers’ protests.
