The sudden increase in water levels in the Bagmati River has led to flooding in hundreds of houses across 18 panchayats in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.
Due to this, lakhs of people in those panchayats have lost contact with the block headquarters and district headquarters, causing significant distress. Water has also risen on both sides of the Pipapul.

Many schools in the affected areas have been inundated with floodwater, causing significant disruption to the education of hundreds of children. "When the water level in the Bagmati River rises, floods like this occur at the school. We arrived at the school on time, and the children also came punctually, but the water level is up to knee-high. We have informed the authorities about the situation and have granted the children a holiday. We will proceed according to further instructions from the authorities," stated a school staff member.

More than hundreds of homes in Barri and Basghatta Panchayats have seen water intrusion, further upsetting the locals.
Rapid ground erosion is also happening at the same time along the former West Bagmati River embankment, which stretches from Gangia to Bakuchi Chowk.
Due to the recent days of nonstop rain, the Bihar government ordered district administrations to maintain vigilance as the levels of various rivers were increasing.
Pratyaya Amrit, the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Disaster Management Department (DMD), recently conducted a virtual review meeting with the relevant officials from nearly every district and inquired about the status of affairs at various locations.
The ACS said in a statement that he gave the authorities instructions to "remain alert and fully prepared to tackle the situation if the water level increases further".
Low-lying areas are being flooded by rivers that nearly all have a rising tendency throughout their courses.
According to officials, numerous rivers, including the Gandak and Burhi Gandak, were either running over or close to the danger line in some areas, making the situation in the districts of East Champaran, Gopalganj, and West Champaran severe.
