Mumbai, India's financial hub, woke up to flooded streets and widespread waterlogging on July 14 following heavy overnight rains, leading to severe traffic jams across several parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warnings of intense showers in Thane and Raigad districts, with a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rains in Mumbai throughout the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an urgent orange alert for Mumbai, warning residents to brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall on Sunday. Meanwhile, a severe red alert has been sounded for the districts of Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri, indicating the likelihood of extreme downpours.

The Regional Meteorological Center in Mumbai has cautioned that these four districts in Maharashtra are expected to face relentless heavy rainfall on Sunday, July 14. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.

The Andheri subway and areas near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were among the worst affected, inundating under the deluge. The Western Express Highway also experienced heavy congestion due to the downpour.

In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged residents to remain indoors unless necessary, as the city grappled with the aftermath of the torrential rainfall.

Meanwhile, in the national capital region (NCR), Delhi experienced relief from sweltering conditions as moderate rainfall on July 14 cooled the city. The IMD forecasts light to moderate showers continuing until July 17, offering respite from the humid weather that had prevailed earlier in the week.

Across the country, the IMD issued a red alert for Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, warning of heavy downpours on July 14. Orange alerts were issued for several states including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, Kerala, and northeastern states. In Gujarat, the Madhuban dam in Valsad district saw rising water levels, causing flooding in low-lying areas and affecting national highways.

Looking ahead, the IMD anticipates heavy rainfall in Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka until July 18, with wet spells expected in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh until July 17. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh are also predicted to receive showers in the coming days.

In northern states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, partly cloudy skies with occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted, maintaining humidity levels and offering mixed weather conditions over the weekend.

The Meteorological Department also issued alerts for heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and East Rajasthan until mid-July, highlighting the widespread impact of the monsoon across India.
