Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a roundtable discussion with Indian artificial intelligence (AI) start-ups at his residence, ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 scheduled to be held in the country next month.

The meeting was attended by 12 Indian AI start-ups that have qualified for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge at the upcoming summit. During the interaction, the start-ups presented their ideas and showcased their work across a wide range of AI-driven domains.

These start-ups are working on Indian-language foundation models, multilingual large language models (LLMs), speech-to-text, text-to-audio and text-to-video technologies, as well as 3D generative AI solutions for e-commerce, marketing and personalised content creation. Other focus areas include engineering simulations, material research, advanced analytics for data-driven decision-making, and healthcare diagnostics and medical research.

The AI entrepreneurs praised India’s growing commitment to building a strong artificial intelligence ecosystem. They highlighted the rapid expansion and long-term potential of the sector, noting that the global centre of AI innovation and deployment is increasingly shifting towards India. According to them, the country now offers a supportive environment for AI development, firmly placing India on the global AI map.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister underlined the transformative role of artificial intelligence in society and said India’s hosting of the India AI Impact Summit would reinforce the country’s position in the global technology landscape. He said India is actively working to bring about transformation by leveraging AI.

Emphasising the role of start-ups, PM Modi said AI entrepreneurs are the co-architects of India’s future and highlighted the country’s capacity for both innovation and large-scale implementation. He stressed that India should present a distinct AI model to the world that reflects the spirit of “Made in India, Made for the World.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that global trust in India is one of the nation’s biggest strengths. He emphasised that Indian AI models must be ethical, unbiased and transparent, while being firmly grounded in data privacy principles. He encouraged start-ups to aim for global leadership from India and said the country can champion affordable AI, inclusive AI and frugal innovation worldwide. He added that Indian AI models should promote indigenous content and regional languages.

The meeting was attended by founders and senior leaders from Indian AI start-ups including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan, Genloop, Gnani, Intellihealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI, Tech Mahindra and Zenteiq. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also present.
