Mumbai’s monsoon woes continue to make headlines as heavy rains lash the city, causing severe waterlogging and disruption. This time, the impact has reached the doorstep of Bollywood’s megastar Amitabh Bachchan. His iconic Juhu residence, Prateeksha, was reportedly flooded with ankle-deep water, highlighting once again how even prime city areas are not immune to the monsoon fury.

A video shared by a media outlet showed water entering the bungalow premises, with the surrounding streets also submerged. Prateeksha is a landmark in the Bachchan family’s history, purchased by Amitabh Bachchan soon after the success of his blockbuster film Sholay in 1975. The family moved in around 1976, and it was here that Big B lived with his parents, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. The house also holds sentimental value as both Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan were born there.

Currently, Prateeksha has been gifted to Shweta Bachchan and spans over 10,125 sq ft. Meanwhile, the Bachchans reside in Jalsa, another Juhu bungalow located just a kilometre away, meaning ‘celebration.’ Notably, Prateeksha hosted the wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2007 and is valued at approximately Rs 50.63 crore. Amitabh Bachchan has explained the origin of the name Prateeksha in one of his blogs, stating that it came from a line by his father: “Swagat sabke liye yaha par, nahi kisi ke liye prateeksha.”

The heavy rains in Mumbai have caused city-wide disruptions, with flights delayed, local train services affected, and traffic congestion reported across several areas on Tuesday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Palghar districts, warning of very heavy rainfall in isolated regions. Half of Maharashtra’s districts remain under either red or orange alerts until August 21, with Mumbai Airport also experiencing waterlogging.

Despite the monsoon challenges, Amitabh Bachchan remains active professionally. He was last seen in the Rajinikanth-starrer Vettaiyan, is currently hosting the 17th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, and will appear in Ribhu Dasgupta’s Section 84. He is also set to reprise his role as Ashwatthama in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, alongside stars like Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone.

As Mumbai battles another round of intense monsoon showers, the flooding of even celebrity residences like Prateeksha serves as a stark reminder of the city’s ongoing struggle with waterlogging.
