Arun Goel has been appointed India's next Ambassador to Croatia, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on September 7. Goel is set to take over the role from Raj Kumar Srivastava, the current Ambassador of India to Croatia.
Goel is a retired 1985-batch IAS officer from the Punjab cadre and a former Election Commissioner. He had assumed the role of Election Commissioner on November 21, 2022. He had taken voluntary retirement before his appointment as Election Commissioner in 2022. He resigned from his position as Election Commissioner on March 9, 2024, just prior to the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha election dates.

Arun Goel brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role as India’s Ambassador to Croatia.
With a distinguished academic background that includes a Postgraduate degree in Development Economics from Churchill College, University of Cambridge, and an M.Sc. in Mathematics, Goel's career has been marked by significant contributions across various sectors of government.
His notable postings include serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries (2020-2022) and the Ministry of Culture (2018-2019), as well as Vice Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (2015-2016).
His earlier roles as Joint Secretary in both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Urban Development further underscore his extensive administrative experience.
