On Thursday, massive protests erupted at SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district. The protests were sparked by the discovery of a hidden camera within the washroom of the girls' hostel.

Female students at the hostel gathered in large numbers, chanting "we want justice" slogans as they called on the administration to take action against the accused and to ensure their safety on campus grounds.

The state police said they identified the accused in the case as Vijay, who is a student of the same college, according to a report by News18.

His laptop was seized and nearly 300 obscene videos were recovered, the report added. The police suspects that some of these videos may have been sold to the other students of his college.

As the incident sparked outrage, Telugu Desam Party said in a post on X that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an inquiry into the case.

"The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the concern of the students about the presence of hidden cameras in the hostel. He ordered District Collector and SP to go to the spot immediately along with District Minister Kollu Ravindra," the party said.

Meanwhile, the party’s general secretary and the Chief Minister’s son, Nara Lokesh, stated, “I asked the authorities for details about the protest of female students at Gudlavalleru Engineering College of Krishna District. I have ordered an inquiry into the allegations of hidden cameras.”

Strict action will be taken against the culprits and those responsible if it is found that they have committed a mistake in the investigation, he said.

The incident comes amid massive demonstrations over women's safety following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
