Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra left the whole entertainment industry in shock after his demise on November 24. The renowned actor, who was adored as the "He-Man of Bollywood," died at the age of 89, leaving a massive legacy that lasted for decades.
However, Dharmendra’s popular movie Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) is reported to be re-released in the theatres as a tribute to the actor. The re-release is intended to honour Dharmendra's enormous contribution to Indian cinema and his continuing popularity across generations.
A source close to Bollywood Hungama said, “The re-release of Yamla Pagla Deewana will serve as a tribute to the man who was unanimously loved and who left an indelible mark in the world of cinema. The film seems apt for a re-run as it’s not very old, still looks fresh and entertaining and also stars Dharmendra along with his two sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol."
The source also revealed that the current box office dynamics have caused a modification in the re-release date.
The source said, “Earlier, the plan was to re-release Yamla Pagla Deewana this Friday, December 19. But due to the Dhurandhar wave, NH Studioz, which holds the rights to the film, has decided to change the plan. Yamla Pagla Deewana is now expected to arrive in cinemas on January 1, 2026. A final decision will be taken in a few days from now.”
The film features Dharmendra, Sunny, and Bobby Deol in the lead. The famous song Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana from Dharmendra's 1975 film Pratigya serves as the inspiration for Yamla Pagla Deewana, which is directed by Samir Karnik. The 2011 movie featured a remixed version of the song, which went on to become a hit.
The plot centres on an Indian man who lives in Canada and goes to Banaras to find his brother and father, who have become alienated. After that, the three travel to Punjab, where a series of humorous events takes place as they try to assist the younger brother in winning the woman he loves while negotiating her strange family.
