Health benefits of apricot: From heart health to immunity boost, this is one superfruit you cannot ignore

Different from its dried counterpart, fresh apricot, also known as khubani, is more than just a delightful fruit. Like its taste, this nutritional gem boasts a rich mineral composition, making it a noteworthy source of potassium (1430.07 to 2202.69 mg/100 gm dwb) and iron (2.69 to 6.97 mg/100 gm dwb).

In addition to its mineral goodness, the fruit holds a range of total carotenoids, varying from 0.44 to 3.55 mg/100 gm. Among these carotenoids, β-carotene takes the lead, constituting 33–84 percent of the total content. The diverse nutritional profile of apricots highlights their potential contribution to a well-rounded and health-conscious diet

Here are six reasons why apricots are a good addition to any healthy diet:

Digestion: Apricots are rich in dietary fibre and therefore promote digestive health. The fibre content aids in regular bowel movements, preventing constipation and contributes to a healthy digestive system.

Heart health: Featuring potassium levels ranging from 1430.07 to 2202.69 mg/100 gm, apricots are great for heart health since they regulate blood pressure. The potassium content counteracts the adverse effects of sodium and promotes cardiovascular well-being.

Immunity: The diverse carotenoids found in apricots, particularly β-carotene, help improve the immune system. These antioxidants actively combat free radicals, amplifying immune cell activity and strengthening the body's defenses against infections.

Iron: An exceptional source of iron (2.69 to 6.97 mg/100 gm), apricots help maintain good blood health and prevent iron-deficiency anemia. Introducing apricots into your regular diet emerges as a natural and delicious way to elevate iron levels, and also address a common nutritional concern.

Vision: Apricots, brimming with β-carotene, play a huge role in enhancing vision. This carotenoid serves as a precursor to vitamin A, a crucial nutrient for eye health. Regular consumption of apricots may be a valuable to fight against age-related macular degeneration, a condition affecting vision as you age.
