What Tovino Thomas said at the Anweshippin Kandethum promotion

Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas has no qualms calling a spade a spade.

At film promotions, seldom do you hear scribes probing about a film, on the contrary, they would rather pick on click-bait subjects that ensure traffic. And some actors prefer to throw caution to the winds and give them enough fodder for several Instagram reels. Tovino Thomas has in the past and very recently showed them who is the boss when it comes to dealing with the press.

At the promotions of Anweshippin Kandethum, when the writer Jinu Abraham was asked about the controversial scene in his previous film, Kaduva, and had to remove it owing to protests on social media, Tovino was quick to call out the journalist for the needlessly provocative question — “You got your content, no? The writer owned up to his mistake too. Well done!” he mocked the journalist.

At the same promotional event when he was asked if he would agree to do a politically incorrect role, he replied — “If I play a villain, how do I make him politically correct? The problem is when you are glorifying such villains. If you had a fair idea of political correctness, you wouldn’t be asking me this question.”

During Minnal Murali's promotions, while agreeing that he wasn’t articulate in English, he felt that wasn’t a prerequisite to be an actor — “I am not sitting here because I am an HOD of English literature in college.”

At a press meet when he was asked about the current political climate in the state — “I am not here to talk about politics. I have my politics and I don’t think I need to share that with you. I haven’t done any survey or homework regarding the current ruling party’s chances in the next elections. Do you have any idea? Then how do you expect me to answer that?”
