Satish Shah's wife battles dementia as revealed by close sources

Following the tragic passing of veteran actor Satish Shah, close family members have disclosed that Madhu Shah, his wife, is reportedly suffering from amnesia dementia, a disorder that impairs memory and cognitive awareness.

Due to kidney failure, Satish Shah, who was most famous for playing Indravadan Sarabhai in the beloved sitcom Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai, died on Saturday, October 25, at the age of 74.

The news left the entire film and television fraternity grieving. However, as the family prepares to bring his mortal remains home, they now face another emotional challenge — how to handle Madhu’s delicate condition.

According to people close to the family, Madhu is currently unaware of the tragedy. Her dementia has caused significant memory lapses, making it difficult for her to recognise the gravity of events around her.

A source revealed that when friends and well-wishers began visiting the couple’s Mumbai residence to pay their respects, Madhu appeared confused by the gathering. Believing it to be a social event, she reportedly greeted guests with warmth and hospitality, asking them, “Aap chai lenge ya coffee?” (“Would you like tea or coffee?”).

The gesture, though heartbreaking in its innocence, left visitors and family members deeply emotional. Many struggled to hold back tears as they watched her interact lovingly, unaware of the loss of her husband of several decades.

Those close to the family say they are now extremely concerned about how to break the news of Satish Shah’s passing to Madhu. “Everyone is worried about how she will react once the mortal remains are brought home,” a relative shared. “She and Satish ji were inseparable — their bond was something truly special. It’s hard to imagine her life without him.”

Friends from the film and television industry, many of whom shared a long association with Satish Shah, have expressed deep concern for Madhu’s wellbeing.

They are reportedly in touch with doctors and counsellors to ensure she receives emotional and medical support during this difficult time.

It was love at first sight for Satish Shah when he met Madhu Shah at the Sipta Film Festival.
