The entertainment industry is still in mourning for veteran actor Satish Shah, who died of kidney failure on 25 October at the age of 74.
Actor Sumeet Raghvan, who portrayed Sahil Sarabhai in the classic sitcom Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai, is among those who have been most affected by the news.
In an emotional video shared on social media, Sumeet remembered Satish Shah — affectionately calling him “Kaka” — as not just a co-star, but the heart and soul of their Sarabhai family.
Fighting back tears, he paid tribute to the man who played Indravadan Sarabhai, describing him as irreplaceable.
He began by recalling how the beloved show began two decades ago:
“In 2004, we started a show and stopped it after 70 episodes. Today, 21 years later, that show has become the heartbeat of people’s hearts. The show is called Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.”
Reflecting on the cultural legacy of the sitcom, Sumeet spoke about how fans continue to identify with its characters even after all these years. “People come up to us and say, ‘I’m the Sahil of my house,’ or ‘this one behaves just like Monisha,’” he shared with a bittersweet smile. “But no one ever says, ‘this is the Indravadan of our home,’ because there was only one — Satish Kaka.”
His voice trembling with emotion, Sumeet added, “Today, the head of the Sarabhai family, our most senior member, has left us. He had been struggling for some time. Finally, life can be very cruel.”
The actor went on to describe the deep bond that the cast of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai continues to share, even years after the show ended. “Whenever we meet, we don’t talk as Sumeet or Rupali or Rajesh. We talk as Sahil, Monisha, Rosesh, Dad, and Mom. That’s how close we all are.”
Ending his heartfelt message, Sumeet looked into the camera and said softly, “To all the fans sending condolences to the Sarabhai family, as the eldest son, I accept them. And to Dad, I just want to say — safe travels, Dad. See you on the other side.”
He captioned the post as, "Love you satish kaka.. Love you dad... We all love you and miss you indu..narad muniiiii..#sarabhaivssarabhai #indravadansarabhai"
Rajesh, known for playing the role of Rosesh also shared a deep personal bond with Satish Shah, describing him as a mentor, guide, and “father figure.”
Taking to Instagram, he poured his heart out, writing, “This is the worst hour for me. I still cannot process that Satish ji is no more. All I can say is that it feels I have lost my father.”
