Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) on June 23 appointed Jeffrey Mark Overly as chairperson after Sunjay Kapur's death.

Earlier this month, Kapur suffered a heart attack while he was in the middle of a polo match. He was 53.

"The Board of Directors of the Company appointed Mr. Jeffrey Mark Overly, as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Company. Jeffrey Mark Overly, is an Independent Director of the Company, since 12th February, 2021 and his re-appointment as the Independent Director is approved by the Board in their meeting held on 30th April, 2025, for the second term of 5 consecutive years, i.e. till 11th February, 2031, which is subject to approval of shareholder in the ensuing AGM of the company," said Sona BLW in a stock exchange filing.

Founded in 1995, Sona Comstar is a leading automotive technology firm.

The Gurgaon-based firm is a global supplier with manufacturing and assembly facilities, R&D centres and engineering capability centres across India, the US, Serbia, Mexico, and China. Sona Comstar primarily designs, manufactures, and supplies automotive systems and components to automotive OEMs (original equipment manufacturers).

The company is a leading supplier to the fast-growing global electric vehicle market.

Overly holds a bachelor’s degree of science in industrial management from the University of Cincinnati and has a Master’s degree in business from Central Michigan University. He has over 43 years of operating experience.

Overly was an Operating Partner in the Corporate Private Equity Group, based in New York, at the time of his retirement from Blackstone Group in 2018 and continue to support Blackstone by serving on their numerous portfolio company board. Overly was involved in monitoring, advising and supporting with lean operational excellence, and supply chain improvement, strategic opportunities in Blackstone's global portfolio company holdings.

Before Joining Blackstone in 2008, Overly has held the position of Vice President of Global Fixture Operations at Kohler Company, where he was responsible for its global manufacturing operations including the entire supply chain from procurement to shipment of finished product through a multi warehouse Regional Distribution Centre network. Prior to that, Overly has served 25 years at General Motors Corporation and Delphi Corporation in numerous Operations and Engineering positions with global responsibilities.

In recognition of his unparalleled contributions and enduring impact, the Board of Directors unanimously designated Late Sunjay Kapur as Chairman Emeritus of the company.

"Under his chairmanship, Sona Comstar expanded its global footprint across India, the USA, Mexico, China, and Serbia, successfully listed on
BSE Ltd. and the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., and entered future mobility domains such as sensors and software through the acquisition of a majority stake in Novelic. He also supported the Company’s diversification into sustainable mobility beyond automotive with the acquisition of the railway business from Escorts Kubota Limited," said the company.

Also, Kapur's wife Priya Sachdev Kapur has been as an Additional NonExecutive Director of the company.

A former investment banker and luxury retail pioneer, Priya began her career at Credit Suisse First Boston in London as an M&A analyst, before returning to India to lead ventures in automotive retail, insurance, and later, high fashion. She founded TSG International Marketing Pvt. Ltd., bringing global fashion houses like Moschino, Lanvin, and Jean Paul Gaultier to India, and co-created Rock N Shop, one of the country’s first luxury e-commerce platforms. Priya Sachdev Kapur is deeply engaged in wellness and arts, an accomplished pianist, a dedicated yoga practitioner (certified in Vinyasa Power Flow – Level 3)," said the company.

On June 23, Sona BLW shares on BSE closed nearly 2% lower at Rs 477.35 apiece.
