The excess land will be acquired from six villages falling near the Aligarh district border, officials said.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is likely to start the process of acquiring an additional 1,200 hectares of land for the expansion of the upcoming Noida International Airport by the end of this year.

The excess land will be acquired from six villages falling near the Aligarh district border, officials said.

Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh government had approved further expansion of the airport and the aviation hub. With the addition of this 1200-hectare land, the airport's boundary will be extended to the borders of the proposed logistics park in Aligarh district.

A senior YEIDA official said, on condition of anonymity, that the 1,200 hectares will be acquired from six villages -- Mangaroli, Bhabokra, Deorar, Sadullapur, Ahmadpur Choroli, and Alabalpur. These villages are situated between the Jewar airport area and the proposed logistics park.

The aviation hub's expansion will focus on bringing international companies involved in the manufacturing of aeroplane spare parts. Keeping in view the future requirements, this land will be used for setting up such aviation-related manufacturing companies near the upcoming airport.

“The land acquisition process is expected to start in two months’ time. The changes with regards to expansion of the aviation hub and the airport will be integrated into the Master Plan 2041 before sending it to the state government for final nod,” the official said.

Airport will now be spread across to 7,754 hectares

The upcoming airport will be spread across 6,554 hectares but after the inclusion of additional 1,200 hectares, the area will increase to 7,754 hectares. Out of initial 6,554 hectares of the land, nearly 4,752 hectares is being acquired in four phases.

In the first phase 1,365 hectares of land was acquired, while in the second, 1,364 hectares were acquired, which is designated for an MRO facility.

The process for land acquisition for the third and fourth phase is underway and the state government has already issued notification for a social impact assessment (SIA) by Gautam Buddha University.

The third and fourth phase comprise 1,318 hectares and 735 hectares of land, respectively, which will be used largely for the construction of three runways of the airport, along with other facilities. The remaining 1,800 hectares is government land.

The airport is expected to start operations in September 2024. Its proximity to the Yamuna Expressway will facilitate tourist travel to Agra, Mathura, and Vrindavan.

On October 13, 2023, S P Goyal, additional chief secretary to UP Chief Minister, along with additional chief secretary, Civil Aviation, UP, had inspected the airport site and reviewed the progress of construction as well as land acquisition processes. The runway and the air traffic control (ATC) tower are expected to be ready by March 2024.
