A day after Smriti Mandhana’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was rushed to the hospital with sudden chest pain, the cricketer’s wedding to composer-filmmaker Palash Muchhal came to an abrupt halt. The ceremony, set for November 23 in Sangli, was postponed within hours of the medical emergency. In the middle of that chaos, Palash himself collapsed from stress and had to be admitted to a hospital in Sangli before being shifted back to Mumbai. His mother, Amita Muchhal, later confirmed that he is now resting and recovering, even as both families continue to process the shock of the past two days.
A day after Smriti’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was hospitalised due to sudden chest discomfort, her wedding with composer-filmmaker Palash Muchhal was postponed. The ceremonies were meant to take place in Sangli on November 23. Instead, the family found themselves rushing between home, hospital and tense conversations. What made the situation sharper was that Palash himself landed in a hospital soon after, overwhelmed by the news. His mother, Amita Muchhal, later confirmed that he has returned to Mumbai and is resting, but the story of how he got there reveals the emotional core of the entire episode.
During her conversation with Hindustan Times, Amita said something that instantly changes how you see the whole situation. She revealed that Palash was deeply attached to Shrinivas Mandhana, almost more than Smriti herself. That bond guided everything he did in those chaotic hours. She recalled his exact reaction: Palash Muchhal was the one who said abhi phere nahi honge jabtakk uncle theek nahi hote. He didn’t wait for anyone else to take the call. “Palash ko uncle se bahut zyada attachment hai… Smriti se zyada yeh dono close hain. Jab unko hogaya toh Smriti se phele Palash ne decision liya ke usko abhi phere nahi karne jab tak uncle thik nahi ho jaate,” she said.
The gravity of the moment hit him so hard that he broke down repeatedly. Amita described how the stress pushed him into a near-collapse. “Since haldi was done, we didn’t let him go outside. Rote rote ek dum tabiyat karab ho gai. 4 ghante hospital mein rakhna padha. IV drip chadi, ECG hua aur dosre tests hoye. Sab normal aaye but stress bahut hai.” The doctors kept him under watch for hours before stabilising him. The tests came back fine, but emotionally he was exhausted.
He has since been brought back to Mumbai, where he is resting with family. “We have got Palash back to Mumbai now. He is feeling better and resting now… But stress is there… His sister Palak has also left Sangli and coming to be with him,” Amita added.
As for Smriti’s father, Sarvhit Hospital’s Director, Dr Naman Shah, shared a clear medical update. Shrinivas experienced symptoms of a heart attack shortly after 11.30 am and was moved quickly to the hospital for assessment. “Despite his slightly raised cardiac enzymes, he requires ongoing observation,” Shah said. He also mentioned that while the echocardiogram didn’t reveal new concerns, Shrinivas needs continuous ECG monitoring, possibly angiography, and close watching due to slightly elevated blood pressure. Stress, both emotional and physical, could have been a trigger.
Amita also recalled the moment things started going wrong. The previous evening had been full of celebration, music and dance. “Ek din phele unhone bahut dance kiya. Woh bahut zyada khush the… Instagram pe Stories dal rahe the,” she said. But the next day, while they were planning the baraat, discomfort began. At first, he brushed it off. When the pain grew, the family called an ambulance.
A wedding can be rebuilt. A ritual can be rescheduled. But in these moments, what you see is the real story: a family shaken, a young couple standing still, and a groom who put emotion before ceremony.
