IKEA India gets closer to Delhi NCR; partners with Rhenus to set up warehouse facility near Gurugram

Swedish home furnishing brand IKEA, has signed an MoU with Rhenus, a global logistics firm, to set up a large warehouse facility near Gurugram to boost home delivery experience for its customers in the Delhi-NCR region.

The warehouse facility that measures 1.5 lakh square foot, will come up in Farrukhnagar near Gurugram. It will cater to the IKEA's e-commerce as well as offline business. The warehouse facility is capable of storing and fulfilling over 7,000 products.

“Our collaboration with Rhenus transcends decades. Bringing their expertise and experience in growing IKEA in other global markets to our operations here is an exciting opportunity for both in our India journey. IKEA is excited to announce its first foot down in Delhi NCR alongside Rhenus,” Saiba Suri, Country Customer Fulfilment Manager IKEA India said.

Suri added that the warehouse is expected to go live early next year.

Vivek Arya, Regional CEO, Rhenus India said that the new warehousing project in India is a step towards a more inclusive and diverse global presence.

“The warehouse facility is well connected with other parts of Delhi NCR though robust rail and road network including expressways. In future the need for IKEA products including furniture is expected to go up and this facility will help in meeting that demand. The warehouse shed is ready and fits outs will start soon,” Arya told Moneycontrol.

IKEA and Rhenus have maintained a longstanding partnership since 1988. The collaboration has spanned over four decades, witnessing significant milestones in logistics and home delivery services across various countries including Europe, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Bulgaria.

“Celebrating over four decades of partnership with IKEA, we approach this global expansion with the same fervour and dedication that has been the hallmark of our relationship,” he added.

The company said that cities such as Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon have been experiencing a surge in real estate developments, hence the demand for home furnishings has witnessed a corresponding increase.

Catering to the rising demand, IKEA has plans to launch its omni-channel presence in the region starting mid-2025, reaching customers across Delhi NCR and surrounding markets, the company said.

IKEA India, part of Ingka Group had opened its first retail store in Hyderabad in August 2018. Three big format IKEA stores are operational in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, and Bengaluru and two city stores in Mumbai. It is present online in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Bengaluru.
