Navi Mumbai planning authority, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), has announced a lottery of 7,849 affordable homes for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the Ulwe Node of the city. Navi Mumbai is a satellite city near India’s financial capital of Mumbai.
The affordable homes are under construction in the Bamandongri and Kharkopar areas of Ulwe. Price for each 332 sq. ft unit is Rs 35 lakh, CIDCO officials said.
Prospective buyers can start applying for the scheme by registering online from October 25. The computerised draw for the scheme will be held on January 19, 2023. A website (here) has been made available for online registration, payment, etc., CIDCO said in a statement.
Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO in the release noted that Ulwe will gain “massive importance in the future” as CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai International Airport is built. “The opportunity to own a house in the well-connected node has come through this mass housing scheme, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali," Mukherjee added.
Ulwe, a rapidly developing node of Navi Mumbai, is well connected to Mumbai and the adjoining areas. Housing complexes under the mass housing scheme will be connected with Kharkopar and Bamandongri railway stations on the Nerul-Uran railway corridor.
The proposed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) will provide connectivity to Ulwe node as well as Mumbai. Moreover, Navi Mumbai International Airport being developed by CIDCO is also located in proximity to the Ulwe node. The area surrounding the housing complexes have basic facilities like schools, colleges, and hospitals, etc.
What is EWS category?
According to the Maharashtra housing department, families with annual income of Rs 6 lakh — in the Mumbai, Pune and the Nagpur Metropolitan Regions — or Rs 4.5 lakh in the rest of the state qualify for house purchase under the EWS category.
