First Tick: Here are the top global cues for today’s trade

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to see a flat to positive start on December 10, tracking cues from GIFT Nifty trading around 24,734.5, a short while ago this morning.

The Indian equity markets witnessed a rangebound movement on December 9 and ended lower for the second consecutive session with Nifty closing near 24,600 amid selling seen in the FMCG, PSU Bank, auto and pharma names. However, buying was seen in capital goods, IT and metal stocks.

At close, the Sensex was down 200.66 points or 0.25 percent at 81,508.46, and the Nifty was down 58.80 points or 0.24 percent at 24,619.

GIFT Nifty (Up)

The GIFT Nifty is trading firm, indicating a flat to positive start for the day. Nifty futures were trading at 24,734.5 at 07:00 am IST.

Asian Equities (Up)

Most Asian equities rose after China’s top leaders signaled bolder stimulus next year as they seek to revive the world’s second-largest economy.

Wall Street's main indexes closed lower on Monday, driven by a drop in AI leader Nvidia that weighed on tech stocks, as investors looked ahead to a crucial inflation report set for later this week.

Nvidia fell 2.5% after China's market regulator launched an investigation into the chipmaker over suspected violation of antimonopoly law, dragging the information technology sector down 0.45%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 240.59 points, or 0.54%, to 44,401.93, the S&P 500 lost 37.42 points, or 0.61%, to 6,052.85 and the Nasdaq Composite shed 123.08 points, or 0.62%, to 19,736.69.

US Bond Yield (Down)

The US 10-Year Treasury shed 14 basis points at 4.19 percent, while US 2-Year Treasury was down 5 basis points at 4.12 percent.

Dollar Index (Flat)

The U.S. dollar edged to the highest level this month against the yen on Tuesday as traders looked ahead to a reading of U.S. inflation due the following day for further clues on the path of Federal Reserve policy.

Asian currencies (Mixed)

Asian currencies were trading mixed in the early Tuesday trade. However, on month-to-date basis, Thai Baht lead the gainers followed by Japanese Yen and Philippines Peso.

Oil prices eased only slightly on Tuesday, holding on to most of their gains from the prior session as mounting geopolitical risk after the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and China's vow to ramp up policy stimulus kept a floor under prices.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs)  turned net buyers on December 9 as they bought equities worth Rs 724 crore on December 9, on the other hand, domestic institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 1,648 crore on the same day.
