Google is known for its creativity and innovations, and over the past few years, the tech giant has revealed plenty of augmented reality (AR) 3D animals and models in its Search feature. However, recently Google has removed the majority of 3D AR animals and other models from the Google Search app.
According to a report by 9to5Google, Google has removed most of these models. Currently, only a few animals are available to view in 3D in Google Search, along with some other AR objects and educational models.
Google first added the capability to view 3D animals and models in Search in 2019. Most of 3D models are online, and through AR and the camera on your device, you can view life-size models at your location. Over the years, the collection of animals and models grew, and until late 2023, Google included over 100 distinct species of animals, including dinosaurs, body parts, and other 3D models like commonly used vehicles.
However, as of now, many 3D animals and objects have been removed from Google Search, with 9to5Google stating that only a dozen animals, with a handful of insects and other 3D objects, are present in the list of Google’s AR models catalogue.
This may disappoint many users, including students, who use these models for educational purposes and many use them for entertainment. Google has not yet made any official comment on this decision, but many users have expressed their disappointment on various social media websites and public forums like Reddit. Google hasn't given any official comment or reason on the removal of many AR animals.
