Congress leader Praveen Chakravarty on June 21 apologised for his earlier remarks that slammed Karnataka government's decision to hire services of consultancy firm Boston Consulting Group to help with suggestions to boost revenue.

Chakravarty, chairman of Professionals' Congress & Data Analytics wrote on X, " I posted my pvt opinion on the broader culture of outsourcing core political & policy functions to outside consultants with no ‘skin in the game’. It’s an issue that is debated widely in research circles & my comment was purely academic".

"In retrospect, I should have been much more sensitive about the context.
It was absolutely not intended as a personal criticism of any, let alone my own party’s. I have spoken with & expressed my apologies for causing inadvertent harm to the leadership in Karnataka."

Yesterday, in a post on X, Chakravarty took a dig at the state government and said, "If one wins elections by outsourcing core political functions to external fee charging transactional consultants, then one also governs by outsourcing core policy functions to similar consultants!"

Following his post, the Congress leader started facing backlash from different party quarters.

On June 20, moneycontrol had reported that Karnataka state government has roped in Boston Consultancy Group as a consultant to help with suggestions to boost its revenue. The Congress-led government is reportedly under pressure to raise Rs 50,000 crore-Rs 60,000 crore annually to implement its five poll guarantees and fund development projects.

BCG will work with the state finance department for six months and has quoted a fee of around Rs 9.5 crore.
