Cairn India's Barmer field output drops in April: Sources

Cairn India‘s Barmer oil fields April output has dropped to 562923 Tn against the estimated 719,178 Tn. The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons has pulled up Cairn for Barmer‘s output shortfall, CNBC-Tv18 has learnt. Barmer field situated in Rajasthan had an output of 168,500 barrels per day.

    Cairn India's Barmer oil fields April output has dropped to 562923 Tn (trillion tonnes). against the estimated  719,178 Tn.The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons has pulled up Cairn for Barmer's output shortfall, CNBC-Tv18 has learnt. Barmer field situated in Rajasthan had an output of 168,500 barrels per day.


    Cairn had got a sanction in April to hike its Bamrer output to 175,000 bpd. However, the DGH has sought a plan from Cairn to meet its financial year 2013 output aim.
    Cairn India is the operator of the Rajasthan block, with a 70% participating interest. Joint venture partner ONGC has a 30%. More than 150 wells have been drilled in Rajasthan and have


    Earlier this year, Cairn along with partner ONGC  invested around $5 billion in  Barmer block to ramp up output to 300,000 barrels per day, from 175,000 at present. Cairn India had written to the petroleum ministry about its plans for the block.


    Of the 25 discoveries made by the company in Barmer, two are producing. The Mangla field is producing 150,000 barrels, while another 25,000 is coming from the Bhagyam field. Another field, Aishwarya, would be contributing 10,000 barrels in the coming years, while Bhagyam would add 15,000 barrels. This would take the Barmer output to 200,000 barrels, for which the field development plan has already been approved by the government.
