A video of how Lucknow's famous makhan malai being made from scratch is viral not because of the recipe or process, but because a mouse was seen scurrying through the ingredients even as the sweet was being prepared on camera.
Originally uploaded on Instagram, the video gained traction after being reshared on X. It shows the supervisor shooing away the rodent, but does not clarify if the layers of cream and dry fruit powder were discarded after the incident. Rather, he was seen offering the sweets to others, and another man was shown eating it.
Reacting to the video, while some netizens joked that the clip revealed the sweetmaker's "secret ingredient," others questioned how profit-making businesses are allowed to run in such unhygienic conditions.
"It's not Mousse cake, it's mouse cake," joked one X user, while another commented, "Ratatouille or Ratmalai?"
"Don't spread hate. The mouse is a regular customer and part-time worker," added an Instagram user.
A second user wrote, "I don't really understand when they earn so much money out of business, why can't they maintain hygiene? This is really sad." While a third added, "Thanks for showing the shop name, now I know where not to go."
