Undeterred by her circumstances, Barrelakka, a first-generation graduate in her family, harbored aspirations of securing a government job. This led her to dedicate nearly three years in intensive coaching in Hyderabad. The financial struggles she encountered during this period, including the challenges of sustaining herself in hostels and covering coaching fees averaging Rs 25,000 per cycle, highlight the harsh realities faced by many individuals in pursuit of employment opportunities.

Unexpected setbacks: Investing in livelihood through milk sales

However, due to alleged paper leakage and administrative issues, the Groups exams were cancelled. Faced with an uncertain future, she returned home, and, on her mother's advice, invested in four buffaloes for livelihood through milk sales.

Barrelakka stirs debate on unemployment

Her YouTube video, posted around five months ago, gained immense popularity as she highlighted the dire unemployment situation, and questioned the efficacy of degrees in securing government jobs. This led to a case against her under IPC section 505(2), and the verdict is pending.

Undeterred, Barrelakka decided to contest the Assembly elections as an Independent. In a surprising twist of events, Barrelakka, just ahead of the polls, rapidly gained popularity as a symbol of change and hope. She garnered immense public support, particularly from unemployed youth and the educated community. And, her path to nomination was not without challenges. Her brother was reportedly attacked by political opponents. Various parties attempted to convince her to withdraw, even offering financial incentives. However, she stood firm, continuing her pursuit.

Her election manifesto reflects grassroots concerns, focusing on job creation, training institutes, industry establishment, healthcare facilities, education, and infrastructure in the Kollapur constituency.

Shireesha's election nomination affidavit reveals her meager financial standing, with only Rs 5000 in hand and Rs 1500 in the bank. Yet, she received support from well-wishers through UPI transactions. With a substantial online following, boasting 2.4 lakh subscribers on YouTube, more than 7 lakh followers on Instagram, and 1.3 lakh on Facebook, Shireesha's political journey has transcended social media, becoming a symbol of resilience and grassroots representation.
