Karnataka Elections 2023: The electoral fortunes of top leaders-- Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of the BJP, Congress heavyweights Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar and JD(S)' HD Kumaraswamy, among many others will be known on Saturday.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai submitted his resignation to the Governor, hours after the Congress emerged victorious in the assembly elections with a thumping majority. Before tendering his resignation, Bommai "accepted the responsibility" for the BJP's defeat.
"I don't trust exit polls. I have trust in 141 seats. Our sample size is much bigger. Exit poll sample size is small. There is a major wave in favour of the Congress," Shivakumar said.
Basavaraj Bommai today met BJP veteran B S Yediyurappa along with other party leaders, including ministers Murugesh Nirani, Byrathi Basavaraj, party MP Lehar Singh Siroya and A T Ramaswamy, at the former chief minister's residence.
Karnataka election results update: Exit polls give Congress a slight edge despite the BJP fighting this election using the charisma and vote-pulling abilities of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Karnataka Elections 2023 Updates: After much political effervescence in the tightly-contested assembly elections in politically crucial Karnataka, all eyes are on the counting of votes on Saturday (May 13) when the results will be declared.
The minister claimed that the party had done extremely well in some of the seats "beyond imagination".
Most pollsters, however, have also given an edge to the Congress over the ruling BJP
The Karnataka poll campaign witnessed a sudden spin in the urban and semi-urban areas for a couple of days with the Congress’ election manifesto mentioning its intention of banning the Bajrang Dal, a right wing outfit.
Karnataka Elections 2023: Most exit pollsters who wagered their numbers yesterday did not share vote share estimates on which they based their calculation or their sampling methodology and other details. This lack of transparency in exit polls makes the calculation of seat numbers a dubious proposition
Both the Congress and the BJP rubbished the exit poll results, saying the numbers were far from the reality.
The direction of the trend is quite clear in the exit polls. Congress has the edge and BJP will again be unable to secure a majority. Congress targeting the Bommai government and BJP projecting its central leadership were two noticeable strands of the bipolar campaign that left JD(S) struggling for voter mindspace
Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: However, in the event of a hung assembly, which some of the exit polls indicate is a possibility, it is the JD(S) with its likely modest numbers that could once again become the king or the kingmaker.
The close contest for the Assembly elections in 2023 proves that the BJP is struggling to overcome anti-incumbency, charges of corruption and could pay a price for ignoring leaders of its largest voter bank – the Lingayats
A hung assembly will allow JDS to play the role of kingmaker and leave the door open for horse trading
Karnataka Elections 2023: The exit polls show Congress ahead, but track record and the split nature of predictions from various pollsters keep up the suspense. The lower end and higher end of projections show wild divergence: BJP from a low of 62 to a high of 117, Congress from 86 to 140 and JD(S) from 12 to 33
Karnataka Elections 2023: Both the voters and pollsters have spoken. The pollsters have been heard. The voter’s turn will come on May 13. Karnataka’s history of close contests since 2004 is slated to repeat this time too with the exit polls diverging: some predicting a narrow victory for Congress, others that it will be single largest party, and a few giving the edge to BJP
