Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series on Netflix Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has successfully managed to bring back the charm of Indian retro glamour into mainstream, and fans just can’t enough of the style statements from the elite house of courtesans portrayed in the show. In a captivating nod to the charm of yesteryears, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, who plays the role of Rehana, recently offered fans a tantalising glimpse into the world of Heeramandi with her vintage makeup looks.
Transporting us back to a bygone era of elegance and opulence, Sonakshi's portrayal showcases the timeless allure of classic beauty on her Instagram post. With makeup that pays homage to the beauty ideals of the past and jewellery that speaks of a rich cultural heritage, Sonakshi invited her fans to journey back in time and take a look at the splendor of a bygone era.
Sharing her makeup and costume details, the actress wrote, “Here are some photos from my look test for the cruelest of them all… Rehana. Since i was supposed to be playing my own mother, we wanted to make her slightly different… so I put on some weight and we added a lot more drama with the hair where it was longer and curlier than fareedans and with the makeup where we kept it heavy on the eyes, elongated the eyebrows and added freckles… green lenses too!” (SIC)
Breaking Sonakshi’s retro look for the character:
With makeup that speaks volumes of nostalgia, Sonakshi and her team embraced the art of heavy eye makeup, accentuating her gaze with a sultry allure that harks back to the glamour of old Hollywood. Elongated eyebrows added a touch of drama, framing her face with an exquisite precision that captivated the imagination.
But it wasn't just about the eyes—freckles delicately dotted across her visage added an air of whimsy, evoking the innocence and allure of a bygone era. With each carefully placed freckle, Sonakshi's makeup artists masterfully recreated the look of natural beauty, reminiscent of a time when imperfections were celebrated as a mark of individuality.
Complementing these enchanting makeup choices were the exquisite old-school jewellery pieces that adorned Sonakshi's ensemble. From ornate nose rings to oversized naths, each piece spoke of a rich cultural heritage and a time when jewellery was more than just an accessory—it was a symbol of status and tradition. Heavy emerald neckpieces added a pop of colour, while silver fans exuded an air of regal elegance, transporting viewers to a charming world inspired by the Raj era.
Sonakshi’s look was elevated with a touch of elite elegance with accessories like pearl headpieces, bangles in matching gem stones and floral accents. With their ability to add a touch of opulence and romance to any ensemble, the delicate details of these old-world accessories can turn any ordinary look into a regal one.
