Seasonal cough and cold in children are usually mild, but certain symptoms can indicate a more serious condition. If a cough persists for more than two weeks or worsens over time, it’s a red flag. Difficulty breathing, rapid or laboured breathing, or the presence of wheezing can point to respiratory issues like asthma, pneumonia, or bronchitis. High fever (above 102°F) that doesn't subside, along with severe body aches, fatigue, or vomiting, may suggest flu or a bacterial infection.
Other alarming signs include a barking cough, which may indicate croup, or if the child is unable to swallow due to throat pain, which could signal a more serious throat infection. If the child is unusually lethargic, shows signs of dehydration (such as dry mouth or lack of urination), or develops a bluish tint around the lips or nails, immediate medical attention is required. Always consult a pediatrician if these symptoms arise.
However, in mild cases one can opt for natural and safe home remedies to help cure seasonal cough and cold in children. Pediatrician Dr Niraj Gulati suggests these home remedies for quick relief.
