While diet and exercise play an important role, what you consume in the early morning matters just as much and can, in fact, help you lose weight faster. Instead of starting your day with a gazillion things that may quickly increase your cortisol levels, begin your mornings slowly and intentionally, which in turn will help you achieve your targets.

For this, fat loss coach Tegan Michelle suggests 5 early morning habits that can come to your aid.

- Drink Lemon or Apple Cider Vinegar: According to Tegan, hydrating the body should come before consuming coffee in the morning. For this, she suggests drinking warm lemon water or apple cider vinegar. She shared that it helps “stimulate digestion and wake up your gut, flush out toxins and reduce bloating, alkalise your body and support liver detox, and stabilise blood sugar levels.”
- Soak the Sunlight: Getting sunlight within 30 minutes after you wake up helps “regulate your metabolism, boost serotonin, help balance cortisol (which prevents fat storage!), and improve sleep quality (which is critical for fat loss).”
- Body Movement: Beginning the day with stretches and movement is a great way to get going, especially after sleeping for 6–8 hours. It helps “improve circulation and digestion, reduce stiffness and inflammation, and lower stress (which helps with stubborn fat storage).”

Hence, she recommends starting the day with breath work, meditation, or even yoga, which helps “lower cortisol (so your body isn’t in fat-storing mode) and improve digestion (stress shuts it down!).”
