Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day as it provides you with energy and essential nutrients to kickstart your morning. To gain the most health benefits from your first meal, French biochemist Jessie Inchauspé recommended some delectable savoury options in her new video. The good news? They don’t cause a blood sugar spike, and some of them don’t even require cooking.

If you have little time in the morning and can barely get yourself out of the bed to get ready, then this is for you. Jessie, who goes by the name of Glucose Goddess on Instagram, suggested the following options which don’t require cooking.

  • Greek yoghurt with nuts

  • A bagel with some cream cheese and salmon: She said the bagel is optional since it’s starch, but added it’s delicious with cream cheese and salmon.

  • An avocado toast with some eggs on top: She said, “Avocado toast on its own doesn’t have any proteins. It’s just starch and fat, which is fine but you  really need to add protein in there,” she said.

And that’s not all, she further shared two of her most favourite cooked options that don’t take time to make either, and these include:

  • Omelettes: Jessie called it one of her favourites, especially when made with cherry tomatoes and feta cheese.

  • Leftovers from dinner: She recommended grabbing leftover lentils or chicken, sautéing them in a pan, cracking in a couple of eggs for an extra nutritional boost, and enjoying it as a quick breakfast.

For those who crave sweets in the morning, she said, “If it’s hard for you to completely give up the sweet foods in your breakfast as you work your way towards doing that, what you can do is have sugar at the end of your breakfast and you'll create a smaller glucose spike.”

In her caption, Jessie, who’s also a NYT bestselling author, shared her hacks for building a savoury breakfast. Here’s what she suggested:

  • Centre it around protein (eggs, greek yogurt, fish, meat, lentils, tofu, protein powder)
  • Add fat (avocado, nuts, seeds, nut butter, olive oil, butter)
  • Add optional fibre (extra points if you can add veggies: courgettes, green beans, tomatoes , mushrooms)
  • Optional starch (bread, potatoes, steel-cut oats) just for taste
  • Optional whole fruit just for taste (berries are best!)
