Ayurveda teaches us that maintaining healthy blood flow (Rakta Sanchaar) is essential not only to sustain our energy and vitality, support the health of our heart, and promote mental clarity, but also to create and maintain a healthy environment for all body systems to thrive.

Healthy blood circulation allows us to efficiently deliver oxygen and nutrients to our cells and remove toxins, while poor circulation can lead to tiredness, cold hands and feet, and other more serious conditions over time. While modern medicine provides remedies to fix processes quickly, Ayurveda takes a more holistic approach and offers time-tested, natural remedies that work from the inside out.

Here are 8 Ayurvedic drinks that can help support healthy blood circulation, support a healthy heart function, and naturally detoxify your blood, according to Delhi-based Ayurvedic Specialist Dr. Nischal Verma.

Ashwagandha Milk: Ashwagandha is one of the most powerful adaptogenic herbs in the Ayurvedic traditions. It has great power to support the body in dealing with stress, and additionally, is very effective in promoting blood and oxygen flow. This medicinal drink, incorporated with warm milk, not only supports the social nervous system but also promotes vasodilation and optimal distribution of oxygen through the circulatory system. Although ashwagandha milk is good to drink anytime, at nighttime, this drink helps relax the body while providing cardiovascular support. Add a twist of turmeric and cardamom to access even more potential anti-inflammation.

Turmeric Tea: The medicinal properties of turmeric are attributed to curcumin. The ongoing pro-anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits of drinking turmeric tea is very valuable. Research suggests using turmeric tea may help reduce blood viscosity and facilitate better flow through the arteries. When consumed daily, turmeric tea should help to prevent clotting and lower blood pressure. To prepare turmeric tea, heat turmeric in hot water. I recommend to sauté with black pepper, as the combined effect will affect absorption. Add honey to sweeten (to taste). Drinking turmeric tea every morning should be an integral part of the long-term support of vascular health.

Beetroot and Amla Juice: Beetroot is a natural source of nitrates, which enables nitric oxide production in the body, a natural dilator of blood vessels. Amla or Indian gooseberry is packed with Vitamin C and not only cleans the blood but also strengthens blood vessels. Beetroot and amla juice is a powerhouse beverage that enhances circulation, brightens the skin and revitalizes the body. The best consumption of beetroot and amla juice is on an empty stomach.

Ginger-Lemon Infusion: Ginger increases circulation to the heart and thereby increases circulation throughout the body. Lemon enhances iron absorption and purifies the blood. Therefore, a warm infusion of ginger and lemon will not only help support blood flow but also aid digestion, and digestion is an important part of good circulation according to Ayurveda. This beverage should be taken at any point of the day, preferably in the morning or after meals, to enhance blood flow and detoxification.

Pomegranate and Tulsi Juice: Pomegranate is known to be high in antioxidants such as punicalagins that boost both heart health and blood circulation. Tulsi (holy basil) has blood-thinning properties and reduces oxidative stress within the arteries. When mixed together, fresh pomegranate juice is a powerful blood-purifying drink with tulsi leaves that aid cardiovascular health. It is better enjoyed in the morning or as a refreshing drink in the afternoon. _

Triphala Water: Triphala is a combination of three fruits (Haritaki, Bibhitaki, Amla) celebrated for its detoxifying effects. If you soak Triphala in water overnight and drink in the morning, it aids the natural cleansing of the colon. You will see cholesterol levels start to lower and overall circulation will be improved. It contains a range of antioxidants that can help increase the strength of blood vessels while reducing plaque formation in arteries. When you drink it consistently, you should see benefits along with improved metabolism and circulation health.

Cinnamon-Clove Tea: Cinnamon and clove both improve circulation by warming the body and blood vessels. Cinnamon has properties (consumed in moderation) that help regulate blood sugar levels, blood cholesterol levels, as well as inflammation. Boil both spices in water, strain the tea, and drink after meals to optimize digestion and blood flow. The warming properties of the solution also help if you are in a cold climate or if you have cold hands and feet!

Aloe Vera and Giloy Juice: Aloe vera is hydrating, possesses anti-inflammatory properties and helps with smooth bowel movements, all of which may improve blood circulation. Giloy, meanwhile, helps boost immunity and cleanses the blood. A shot of aloe vera and giloy juice every morning on an empty stomach can help with liver function, cleanse the blood and help with the overall vascular action of the body naturally.
